Course Description
This course is suitable for anyone who works with children and young people, covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying. The course provides the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.

Topics Covered
Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a young person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.
A range of subjects are covered including:
- What is first aid for youth mental health?
- Identifying mental health conditions
Stress - Mental health conditions
- Drugs and alcohol
- First aid action plan for mental health
Assessment
Continuous observation by the trainer and written assessments.
Certification
On successful completion, learners will be awarded the Level 2 Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health. This qualification is valid for three years.
